Topstep Review 2026

The most verifiable firm in futures prop, one that pays us nothing, wrapped in a subscription meter, a locked platform, and the rockiest year of rule changes in its history. Whether the trust underneath is worth the wrapper is the question this review answers.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The oldest firm in futures prop: a registry-confirmed Illinois LLC operating since July 2012 from a real leased office in the Chicago Board of Trade Building, 100 to 249 reported employees, and the same founder-CEO since day one
  • Verifiable regulatory registration inside the corporate family: Topstep Brokerage is a CFTC-registered introducing broker and NFA member, backed by an exclusive Plus500US clearing partnership and FIA membership, more real-market infrastructure than any sim-only competitor can show
  • The only major futures prop firm running a real-capital live stage as the program destination, so the ceiling here is actual live trading instead of a bigger sim account
  • Rare transparency: published annual trader performance statistics covering pass rates, funded rates, payout rates, and live call-up rates that no major competitor matches, plus shareable Proof of Payout cards generated on every payout since January 2026
  • Payout proof at the community-aggregated tier: thousands of dated payout-received reviews with they-always-pay as a recurring theme, and payout-approval and speed claims pinned to Topstep's own pages
  • Honest list pricing: no fake strikethrough on the Standard plan, and the real monthly prices are the numbers coupon sites pretend are a discount
  • A permissive rulebook by roster standards: automation allowed at every stage with conditions, news trading allowed, no time limit, no minimum trading days, and a Combine consistency target that raises your profit target instead of failing you
  • A Monthly Reset Credit is included with every rebill on every size and path, so a blown Combine does not always mean new money
  • Fast payout rails once a cycle completes: same-day Prop-to-Brokerage transfers and instant Aeropay for US traders, a 125 dollar minimum, and no Topstep fee on the fast rails

Cons

  • Rule-change velocity is the headline risk: more rule changes in the eight months before our capture than in any comparable stretch of the firm's 13-year history, including a trader-adverse split change, a payout-path restructure, an activation-fee hike, platform exclusivity, and an LFA capital-access tightening, all dated in the trust section
  • The profit split moved against new traders on January 12, 2026: a flat 90/10 from the first dollar replaced 100 percent of the first 10,000, and repeat payouts now also require positive net profit since the last one
  • TopstepX is the only platform since February 28, 2026: NinjaTrader, Tradovate, Quantower and every other third-party platform were removed, the December 2025 outage wave is widely called the worst operational stretch in firm history, and platform reliability is the current sore spot in the review record
  • The subscription keeps billing after you blow the account: hitting the Maximum Loss Limit does not stop the rebill, the account just trades as practice until you reset or cancel, and canceling is permanent for that subscription
  • The Maximum Loss Limit is enforced in real time against unrealized P&L even though the floor itself only moves at the close, so an intraday wick can end an account whose closing balance would have been fine
  • XFA payouts are capped per request by size and payout path, and the caps stay until the live stage, which only 0.71 percent of XFA traders reached in 2025 by Topstep's own numbers; the live call-up is also mandatory once offered, and the restructured LFA starts you at 20 percent of your capital with the other 80 percent gated behind milestone unlocks
  • KYC enforcement is strict and carries a dated grievance cluster: community reports of funded accounts closed and profits forfeited over video-verification violations, including a borrowed-device case
  • A 3.5 Trustpilot average across the largest review base in futures prop, sitting near the bottom of its Trustpilot category, with only about 5 percent of negative reviews getting a reply
  • Flat by 3:10 PM CT every trading day with no overnight or weekend holding, so swing styles are out by design

Strategic Edge Plays

  1. Check the Responsible Trading Advantage box at checkout on a No Activation Fee Combine: it lowers the monthly, adds a fixed daily loss limit, and under the current offer doubles your XFA per-request payout caps. It only counts at Combine purchase, never at activation, and the cap doubling is a live offer with no announced end, so confirm it is still running before you count on it
  2. If you bank wins most days you trade, activate your XFA on the Consistency payout path: three traded days at 40 percent consistency or below beats five winning days of 150 dollars, and it is the fastest route to a first payout at Topstep
  3. Run one strategy across up to 5 XFAs with the built-in trade copier, up to 750,000 in combined buying power, and remember the copier disables itself while a payout processes, so re-enable it manually or your other accounts sit idle
  4. Time your retries against the rebill: every monthly rebill includes a reset credit, so a breached Combine near its rebill date often costs nothing extra to restart, while an early-cycle breach means either paying the reset fee or trading practice until the credit lands
  5. Use the Personal Daily Profit Target setting to lock a green day before it breaches the Combine consistency target, because one oversized day does not fail you, but it raises your profit target and stretches the eval

Verdict and Who It Is For

Topstep pays us nothing. The firm shut down its affiliate program in August 2024 and cut ties with every affiliate it had, so there is no commission and no tracking link anywhere on this page, and we review it anyway because it is one of the most demanded firms in futures prop and leaving it off would make the roster useless. That arrangement is worth leading with, because a firm that earns us zero dollars landing near the top of our futures roster is the cleanest proof we can offer that commissions do not touch these scores.

And Topstep earns its spot the slow way. This is the oldest firm on the roster, a registry-confirmed Illinois company trading out of the Chicago Board of Trade Building since 2012, with a CFTC-registered introducing broker inside its own corporate family, an exclusive clearing partnership with Plus500US, and the only real-capital live stage offered as the destination of any major futures prop program. No simulated-only competitor can match that infrastructure, and the trust section below walks through every piece of it.

The honest counterweight is that the past year has been the rockiest in the firm's history. Topstep changed more rules in the eight months before our capture than in any comparable stretch across more than a decade in business, the profit split moved against new traders in January 2026, the platform went TopstepX-only in February, and the review record carries a real grievance undercurrent: a middling 3.5 Trustpilot average across the biggest review base in the niche, a December 2025 outage wave, and a cluster of KYC forfeiture reports. None of that undoes the trust case. All of it belongs in your decision.

The buyer this all points to is the trader who ranks counterparty safety above everything else, first and clearly. Newer traders land well here too, because a low monthly with no time limit, no minimum days, a reset credit on every rebill, and a consistency target that stretches your eval instead of failing you is about as forgiving as evaluations get. Automation traders get a rare green light here, and anyone who wants their funded career to end in real live capital instead of a larger sim account has exactly one major firm to pick.

Some traders should not buy here at all. If you hold overnight or through the weekend, everything goes flat by 3:10 PM CT daily, so that style is simply off the menu. If your edge lives inside NinjaTrader, Tradovate, or any other third-party platform, those are gone and TopstepX is the only door. If you are chasing large single payouts fast, the funded account caps every request until a live stage that fewer than one percent of funded traders reached last year. And if you need your rulebook to sit still, Topstep's has not lately.

Pricing and Account Tiers

Topstep is a subscription, and the meter matters more than the sticker. Every Trading Combine rebills every 30 days from the day you sign up until you pass, cancel, or the account closes, there is no time limit and no minimum day count, and here is the part that catches people: blowing the account does not stop the billing. Hit the Maximum Loss Limit and the subscription keeps rebilling while the account trades as practice, until you either use a reset or cancel, and canceling is permanent for that subscription, no resubscribe and no reset purchase afterward. The saving grace is the Monthly Reset Credit: every rebill now includes one reset, so make sure you check where you are in the billing cycle before paying for a reset the rebill was about to hand you.

Each of the three sizes sells on two pricing paths that share identical targets, drawdowns, limits, and rules. Standard runs a lower monthly plus a one-time 149 dollar activation fee for each funded account you earn; No Activation Fee runs a higher monthly and skips the activation entirely, and the Responsible Trading Advantage toggle on that path lowers the monthly further at checkout (the next section covers why that box matters beyond the price). Paths cannot be converted after purchase, so be honest with yourself about how many months the Combine will take before you pick one. The table runs on standard undiscounted pricing, which is what our Cost Score is anchored to, Level 1 CME data is included free at every stage, and the number on the account label is sim buying power, so do not read it as capital anyone handed you.

Cost in Practice and Live Discounts

Most Topstep discounts you will see advertised are fiction. Coupon sites promote 50 to 80 percent off against inflated standard prices Topstep has never charged, when the real list price is already the number those comparisons pretend is the deal, and pages still advertising a Topstep affiliate discount are relics of a program that died in August 2024. Real Topstep codes do exist, but they run modest, rotate fast, and nothing we have tracked touches the Standard-path activation fee. The saving that actually stands is structural, not a code: the Responsible Trading Advantage toggle on a No Activation Fee Combine cuts the monthly right at checkout with nothing to paste, and our Cost Score is computed against that sustained reality rather than the coupon-site theater. Live code status and what each one genuinely covers live on our Topstep discount page.

Rules and Risk Mechanics

By roster standards Topstep lets you do a lot. Automation is allowed at every stage with conditions, news trading is allowed, there is no time limit, no minimum trading days, and no minimum hold time, and the Combine consistency target is the gentlest version of that rule in futures prop: your best single day has to stay at or below 50 percent of the profit target, and exceeding it does not fail you, it raises the target and stretches your eval. The reason Topstep can afford that looseness is that one rule does nearly all of the filtering, and the firm literally brands it the One Rule.

That rule is the Maximum Loss Limit, and its mechanics deserve exact language because third-party reviews keep getting them wrong. The floor itself moves end of day only: it rises with your closing balance, never intraday and never down, and it locks permanently once it climbs to your starting balance in the Combine or to zero in the funded account. The breach check runs on a different clock. It watches your net P&L in real time, unrealized included, so an intraday wick that touches the floor liquidates the account on the spot even if the session would have closed back above it. Call it what it is: an end-of-day trailing floor with intraday enforcement. Respect the intraday part.

A daily loss limit is optional in the Combine and the funded account, and its breach is soft, meaning the day ends but the account survives: positions flatten, orders cancel, and you are locked out until the next session opens at 5 PM CT. Every position must be flat by 3:10 PM CT daily, fifteen minutes earlier on holiday closes, and there is no overnight or weekend holding. The conduct rules to know: account stacking in the serially-blowing-accounts sense is a named prohibited strategy, SIM-fill exploitation and unfair technology are review triggers, running full maximum position size directly into a scheduled major news release is prohibited even though news trading itself is fine, and all trading must come from your own device, with VPS, VPN, and remote servers banned by the Terms of Use.

The platform is now part of the rulebook, because since February 28, 2026 TopstepX is the only platform you can use. NinjaTrader, Tradovate, Quantower and the rest were removed in the ProjectX exclusivity move, so if your workflow lives in a third-party platform, that workflow does not come with you. TopstepX itself is web-based with TradingView charts built in and nothing to download, API access for custom tooling costs extra and API automation is prohibited at the live stage, and the honest history is that the platform's December 2025 outage wave was the worst operational stretch in more than a decade of operating, with platform reliability still the loudest complaint in the current review record. Weigh the lock-in accordingly, because at Topstep the platform decision has been made for you.

The last mechanic is the one nobody reads until it applies to them: the live call-up. Consistent funded performance can earn a discretionary invitation to the Live Funded Account, and once offered it is mandatory, declining means closing your funded account. The LFA starts you at 20 percent of your capital with the other 80 percent held in reserve behind milestone unlocks, the daily loss limit becomes automatic and tightens itself at low balances, and a significant drawdown can trigger a Shoulder Tap call-down. It is real money on real rails, which is the whole draw of Topstep, but make sure you read the LFA parameters before you get good enough for them to matter, because only 0.71 percent of funded traders got there in 2025 and the terms surprise most of them.

New to any of these terms? Our plain-terms guides break down drawdown, consistency rules, and the rest.

Is the Topstep drawdown intraday or end of day?

Both, and the distinction matters. The Maximum Loss Limit itself only moves at the close: it rises with end-of-day balance growth, never intraday and never down, and it locks once it reaches your starting balance in the Combine or zero in the funded account. But the breach check runs in real time against your net P&L including unrealized, so a wick that touches the floor mid-session ends the account even if the day would have closed above it.

What is the Topstep consistency rule?

In the Combine, your best single day must stay at or below 50 percent of the profit target, and breaking it does not fail you, it raises your profit target instead. In the funded account it only exists on the Consistency payout path, where your largest winning day must stay at or below 40 percent of net profit in each payout window. The Standard payout path has no funded consistency rule at all.

Does Topstep allow automated trading?

Yes, at every stage, with conditions. Topstep will not help set up or troubleshoot automation and makes no exceptions for errant trades or malfunctions, API automation is prohibited at the live stage, and all trading has to come from your own device, since VPS, VPN, and remote servers are banned by the Terms of Use. Test on the practice account first.

What platform does Topstep use?

TopstepX, and only TopstepX. Since February 28, 2026 every third-party platform, including NinjaTrader, Tradovate, and Quantower, has been removed. TopstepX is web-based with TradingView charts built in and nothing to download, and optional API access for custom tools is available at an extra monthly cost.

Payouts and Proof

The decision that shapes your Topstep payouts is not made at purchase. It is made the day your funded account activates, when you pick one of two payout paths and live with it. The Standard path pays every cycle of five winning days of 150 dollars or more, with no funded consistency rule at all. The Consistency path pays every cycle of just three traded days, but your largest winning day has to stay at or below 40 percent of your net profit inside each window. So the split is simple: steady singles hitters take Consistency and get the fastest first payout in the program, three traded days after activation, while streaky traders whose profit arrives in bursts take Standard and trade speed for freedom. Two rules apply to everyone: repeat payouts require positive net profit since your last one, with the first payout exempt, and every request needs at least 125 dollars.

The split is 90/10 from the first dollar for anyone who joined on or after January 12, 2026, and that is a downgrade worth stating plainly, because the old structure paid 100 percent of your first 10,000 and earlier joiners keep it. Funded-account payouts are also capped per request, at 50 percent of your balance up to a ceiling keyed to your account size and payout path, and those ceilings hold until the live stage, where the caps come off entirely and daily payouts unlock after 30 lifetime winning days. Speed is a genuine strength: internal approval runs 1 to 3 business days, then US traders can move money same day through Topstep's own brokerage or instantly through Aeropay where the bank supports it, with Wise and ACH at 1 to 3 days and wires the slow option that carries a fee.

Stacking works here, inside limits. You can run unlimited Combines but a maximum of 5 funded accounts, and the built-in trade copier will mirror your trades across your own accounts up to 750,000 in combined buying power. Just keep in mind the copier disables itself while a payout processes and has to be manually re-enabled, and know the line Topstep draws: copying your own accounts is officially supported, while account stacking in the blow-them-up-hunting-a-runner sense is a named prohibited strategy. Same word, opposite standing.

On payout proof, Topstep grades out at the community-aggregated tier, and the record behind it is unusually deep. Topstep publishes annual trader performance statistics no major competitor matches, its own pages carry payout-approval and payout-speed claims we treat as firm-published rather than independently verified, its marketing cites more than a billion dollars paid over the firm's life, firm-claimed and unaudited, and every payout since January 2026 generates a shareable Proof of Payout card, which gives the community a native receipt surface. The dated evidence list below carries both sides: thousands of payout-received reviews with they-always-pay as a recurring theme, alongside the Wise delay cluster from December 2025 into January 2026 and the KYC forfeiture reports covered in the trust section. Both sides are dated and labeled; neither erases the other.

Payout evidence

  • firm published stats2026-07-02Topstep publishes a 2025 cohort disclosure on its own site: 16.8 percent of Combines completed, 51.8 percent of participants reached a funded level, 33.3 percent of funded-level participants received a payout, and 0.71 percent of Express Funded Account traders were called up to Live. Confirmed verbatim in the homepage 2025 Trader Performance Statistics disclosure covering January through December 2025 when we captured it on 2026-07-06. This level of transparency is rare in the niche, and the funnel it describes is sobering, which is exactly why it is credible.Source
  • firm claimed aggregate2026-07-06Homepage marketing stats as printed when we captured them on 2026-07-06: more than 1.4 billion USD paid out, footnoted as the all-time total with individual results varying, more than 7,000 traders paid weekly, footnoted as an internal year-to-date average, 15 years trusted by traders, and more than 140 countries, with a separate page adding more than 200,000 Topstep traders. All firm-claimed on Topstep's own site. One small honesty check: the 15-years brand claim runs ahead of the 2012-07-12 registered founding, which makes 14, though the 2009 predecessor entity makes 15-plus defensible.Source
  • firm claimed 20242026-07-06Two hard operational figures are published on Topstep's own site: a 99.26 percent payout approval rate and a 9 second average instant payout time, both printed when we captured the page on 2026-07-06. Firm-published rather than audited, but a firm putting specific approval and speed numbers on the record at all is rare, and it gives you something concrete to hold them to.Source
  • firm feature2026-07-02Proof of Payout cards: auto-generated shareable payout receipts for every payout since 2026-01-01, plus Stacked cards for top days. A native, dated, community-visible payout-proof surface, which is worth more than a homepage counter because individual traders publish the receipts themselves.Source
  • firm profile about2026-07-03Topstep's firm-written About block on its Trustpilot profile claims more than 10,000 funded accounts, millions in payouts, more than 12 years funding traders in more than 140 countries, and media features in Forbes, MarketWatch, and the Inc. 5000. Note the measure shift: the homepage counts more than 200,000 traders paid while this block counts more than 10,000 funded accounts. Different metrics rather than a contradiction, but it shows how loosely the big numbers get used, so never treat any single one of them as the firm's size.Source
  • community mixed2026-07-03The review base carries thousands of dated payout-received reviews, with they always pay as a recurring positive theme, alongside a dated cluster of Wise payout-delay complaints from December 2025 into January 2026 and a set of KYC-forfeiture reports. Both sides are real and dated, so both sides are here.Source

Does Topstep actually pay out?

Yes, and the evidence is deeper than most firms can show. The community-aggregated proof tier Topstep holds here, our stronger tier, rests on thousands of dated payout-received reviews, firm-published performance statistics, and shareable Proof of Payout cards on every payout since January 2026. The counterweight is dated too: a Wise delay cluster from December 2025 into January 2026 and a set of KYC forfeiture reports, both walked through in the trust section.

How fast does Topstep pay out?

Internal approval takes 1 to 3 business days, then the rail decides the rest: US traders can move money same day through Topstep's own brokerage or instantly through Aeropay where the bank supports it, Wise and ACH run 1 to 3 business days, and wires take the longest and carry a fee. Topstep's own marketing advertises near-instant processing on the fast rails; treat those figures as firm-published.

What is the difference between the Standard and Consistency payout paths?

You pick one when your funded account activates, and it sets your payout rhythm. Standard pays every cycle of five winning days of 150 dollars or more with no consistency rule attached. Consistency pays every cycle of just three traded days, the fastest first payout in the program, but holds your largest winning day to 40 percent of net profit in each window. Steady daily profits favor Consistency; streaky profits favor Standard.

Trust Profile

Start with our relationship to Topstep, because there is not one. Topstep shut down its affiliate program in August 2024 and cut every affiliate loose, the only surviving path is a reported invite-only arrangement that requires promoting Topstep exclusively, which a multi-firm review site can never accept, so Still Funded earns nothing when you sign up here, every outbound link on this page is a plain link, and this review exists because readers demanded it, not because it pays. One warning while we are on the subject: at least one site advertising a Topstep partner program is not a Topstep property, and any page still promising an affiliate discount is describing a program that has been dead for two years.

The identity case is the strongest on our roster. TopstepTrader, LLC is an active Illinois company registered July 12, 2012, in good standing with its 2026 annual report filed, and the registry's principal address matches the public one exactly: a leased suite in the Chicago Board of Trade Building, a real office for a company reporting 100 to 249 employees, founded by Michael Patak, who still runs it. The registry even shows a predecessor entity from 2009, so the operating history runs longer than the official founding story. And the corporate family carries something no sim-only firm can offer: Topstep Brokerage, a CFTC-registered introducing broker and NFA member, sitting alongside an exclusive Plus500US clearing partnership and FIA membership since 2023. The prop program itself is simulated until the live stage and is not a regulated product, and nobody should tell you otherwise, but verifiable registration inside the same corporate family is a different class of accountability than an anonymous sim shop can claim.

One ownership fact belongs in plain sight before you read anything else on this roster: Topstep owns The Futures Desk. The acquisition closed April 1, 2026, announced in Topstep's own press release, TFD's co-founders joined the Topstep team, and the TFD technology is being folded into TopstepX while the brand keeps selling under its own name. That shared ownership belongs in your math whenever the two brands come up side by side, because you should never read them as independent competitors when they are not.

The reputation record is where the honesty gets uncomfortable, so here it is straight. Topstep's Trustpilot sits at 3.5 across more than 14,000 reviews, the largest review base in futures prop, and near the bottom of its Trustpilot category. Part of that average is an artifact of age and scale, more than a decade of complaint surface that young firms with a few hundred reviews have not accumulated yet, and the trend has actually ticked up recently. But the pattern inside it is real: the December 2025 TopstepX outage wave, widely called the worst operational failure in firm history, the Wise payout delays that followed it into January, KYC enforcement reports of funded accounts closed and profits forfeited over video-verification violations, and rule-change fatigue from a stretch that touched the split, the payout paths, the activation fee, the LFA, and the platform inside a few months. The firm replies to about 5 percent of its negative reviews, which is thin for a paid profile. On the other side of the ledger: the profile invites all reviews rather than cherry-picking, support staff draw repeated praise by name in the current record, terms transparency is the best on the roster with every rule and price public before purchase, and the BBB grades it A-. The read that holds all of it together: platform reliability is the current sore spot, support is a current strength, and the foundation underneath has never been the thing in question.

The December 2025 TopstepX outage wave is widely described in dated reviews as the firm's worst operational failure, with the remediation itself disputed in the review base and the event corroborated by a third-party tracker. An outage is one thing. Traders still arguing about whether they were made whole is the longer-lasting damage.

Accounts of when it happened conflict, a September DDoS window in the customer notice against a late-November credential-stuffing report, so we date the flag to the notification itself. Topstep says its own systems were not breached, attributes the exposure to password reuse, and offered two years of credit monitoring. The denial and the filings are both part of the record; we weigh the filings.

A third-party guide reported payout-cap cuts on the new 50K and 100K No Activation Fee Combines with grandfathering for existing accounts. Topstep's official payout policy, pulled 2026-07-02, tells a different story: one cap table by size and payout path, no pricing-path distinction, no grandfather note, and 100K and 150K figures that do not match the third-party account. By 2026-07-06 the live pricing page did show the 50K and 100K No Activation Fee monthlies priced below the earlier help-center values, which partially backs the reported price cuts, but the payout-cap portion still has no official match anywhere. Where the two conflict, we go with what Topstep's own live pages print, and the third-party version is either partially wrong or superseded.

On 2026-06-02 Topstep's payout policy showed a payout-cap doubling for Combine purchases made with the Personal DLL selected at checkout, with no end date announced. Promotional terms like this come and go without notice, so treat the doubling as conditional on it still being offered on the day you buy, and confirm it on the live payout policy first.

  • pricing change2026-07-06

Between 2026-07-02 and 2026-07-06 the live pricing page moved without the help center keeping up. The deltas we caught on the 2026-07-06 check: the 150K Standard monthly went from 149 to 199 USD with the reset price following, the No Activation Fee monthlies shifted from 109/159/209 to 95/149/229 USD, meaning the 50K and 100K were cut while the 150K was raised, a Monthly Reset Credit on Rebill now appears on every size and path where previously no free reset credits were stated, and the Responsible Trading Discount was rebranded the Responsible Trading Advantage with an on-off toggle shown on the No Activation Fee plan. The exact change date is unknown; either it landed inside that four-day window or the help-center article was already stale. Pricing moving faster than the firm's own documentation is the signal here.

Is Topstep legit?

Legit by the strictest read on the roster: an active Illinois company since 2012 with a registry-confirmed office in the Chicago Board of Trade Building, a CFTC-registered introducing broker inside its corporate family, and published performance statistics no major competitor matches. Loved is a different question: the middling review average, the December 2025 outage, and the KYC forfeiture reports all sit in this review, dated and with both sides shown.

Does Still Funded earn money from Topstep?

No. Topstep shut its affiliate program in August 2024, no replacement exists that an independent multi-firm review site could accept, and every Topstep link on this page is a plain link with no commission behind it. We review the firm because readers demand it, and its scores are computed by the same methodology as every other firm on the roster.

Does Topstep own The Futures Desk?

Yes. Topstep acquired The Futures Desk on April 1, 2026, announced in a Topstep-authored press release, and TFD co-founders Josh Schwartzberg and Brian Ford joined Topstep in the deal. The Futures Desk still sells under its own brand while its technology is integrated into TopstepX, so weigh the two brands as one corporate family, not as rivals.

Compared With Other Firms

The head-to-head readers ask for most is Topstep against Apex, and the two firms are close to opposites: Apex is the stacking and sale-price play wrapped in a hostile rulebook, while Topstep is the trust and structure play wrapped in a subscription meter and a locked platform. Traders chasing bigger early payouts cross-shop the firms with lighter caps and stronger splits, and traders who cannot work without NinjaTrader or Tradovate now have to shop elsewhere by definition. Our comparison pages carry the head-to-heads and the full roster rankings, and the scorecard above shows where Topstep's four axes land against the field.

So here is the whole strategy in one paragraph. Buy the size whose drawdown you can genuinely defend, on the No Activation Fee path with the Responsible Trading Advantage box checked, and treat the monthly as a meter that only stops when you pass or walk away. Pass the Combine without one oversized day, activate on the payout path that matches how your profit actually arrives, pull money every cycle you qualify for, and stay flat by 3:10 CT without exception. Do that and you are using the most verifiable firm in futures prop the way its structure rewards, and it will not have cost us or paid us a cent either way.

This review covers one firm. When you want the wide view, the best futures prop firms rankings line the field up side by side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you pass Topstep in one day?

No, and it is the math that stops you, not a day-count rule. The Combine consistency target caps your best day at 50 percent of the profit target, so a single day can never carry the whole target on its own. Two days is the mathematical floor, and there is no minimum beyond what that rule forces.

Does Topstep have a monthly fee?

Yes, everything here is a monthly subscription that rebills every 30 days until you pass, cancel, or the account closes. Know the two mechanics that matter: blowing the account does not stop the billing, the account just trades as practice until you reset or cancel, and every rebill includes a Monthly Reset Credit, so a breach near your billing date often restarts for free.
